Confronting the Rise in Racism:MidlandTUC & B'ham Stand Up To Racism Summit
Sat 6 May 2017, 13:00 – 17:30 BST
An afternoon of discussion, debate, culture and music hosted by Midlands TUC and Birmingham Stand Up To Racism.
We face the rise of racism on many fronts. Theresa May is putting hostility to migrants at the heart of Brexit. EU migrants face an uncertain future and refugees are constantly scapegoated by the Tories, UKIP and the right wing press. Donald Trump's election has given confidence to racists everywhere and the far right have tried to mobilise in the wake of the Westminster attack to stir up division and Islamophobia.
But we saw over 30 000 people join the SUTR demonstration on 18 March and a host of local initiatives have confronted Trump and May's racism.
Its crucial we build a movement capable of beating back the racists and building unity in our workplaces, colleges and communities.
Come and join the debate about how we build that movement.
