Congee Breakfast Club, orginally devised by London based Jenny Lau @Celestial Peach, is a way to honour a simple yet staple dish dish which bridges many asian cultures.
From Vietnam to China, Malaysia to the Phillipines and everything inbetween; rice porridge is often made from leftover rice and stewed slowly in a simple broth using the offcuts of meat, seafood or vegetables. The rice farmers toiled to pick every piece of rice by hand, so this dish honours their hard work by using every last grain.
Inspired by Jenny Lau, Jaki Clibbon (Papaya Verte) and Ava Lee started a version of their own congee club in Norwich 2 years ago, running in the colder months only. Encouraging Norwich to try the delicious and comforting rice porridge and experiment with seasoning their own bowls of congee with the toppings provided. Now on their 7th event, they are excited to be serving congee from the popular and much loved XO Kitchen. (Special thanks to Jimmy!).
50% of proceeds to the event will be donated to War Child UK.
