Description

This training is for anyone who is able and willing to deliver Connect 5 mental health awareness training in Wiltshire either within their own organisation or as a provider of this course.

Delegates will need to complete an application form before being accepted on this course. You will be sent an application form on receipt of your booking via Eventbrite.

Dates: Tuesday 14 January 2020: 09:30 - 13:00 (Session 1)

Wednesday 15 January 2020: 09.30– 16.30 (Session 2)

Friday 17 January 2020: 09.30– 16.30 (Session 3)

Thursday 30 January 2020: 09.30– 16.30 (T4T Session 1)

Friday 31 January 2020: 09.30– 16.30 (T4T Session 2)

Attendance at all 5 sessions is essential to become a registered Connect 5 trainer

Connect 5 is an evidenced based training programme which is accredited by the Royal Society of Public Health and was developed by Health Education England in collaboration with Public Health England. It takes the position that we don’t need to be mental health specialists to support those who are experiencing emotional and mental health problems and is based on a Cognitive Behavioural Therapy model. It is a modular course with up to 3 sessions available.

On completion of this course you will:

  • Have completed the Connect 5 Training Course (Sessions 1, 2 and 3)
  • Have skills and competencies that build confidence in having conversations about mental health and wellbeing.
  • Have the skills and knowledge to deliver the full Connect 5 training programme
  • Be able to deliver training in mental wellbeing, brief advice and extended brief interventions to improve public mental health and prevent poor mental health.
  • Become part of a national network of accredited Connect 5 Trainers *

* By attending this training you are agreeing to deliver two Connect 5 training programmes free of charge in Wiltshire. A memorandum of understanding will need to be signed.

Criteria for delegates:

  • Be able to deliver Connect 5 courses in Wiltshire – If this is to be part of your work role this will include having permission from your employing organisation /line manager
  • Actively contribute to the SW network of Connect 5 trainers
  • Be committed to personal ongoing learning to support delivery of the programme
  • Have experience of delivering training objectives through a set programme

Required key skills and attributes to take part in this training:

  1. Have a basic knowledge and understanding of mental health and wellbeing issues
  2. Have some knowledge of the principles of behaviour change, brief advice and brief interventions
  3. Can create an effective learning environment, managing group dynamics and differences in learning styles, personalities and professional approaches
  4. Have skills to manage the resistance which may arise when challenging existing practice or personal constructs
  5. Can engage with and support individuals and groups on their learning journeys

Applications should be submitted to Sharon.cox@wiltshire.gov.uk by Sunday 15th December for review by a panel on the 16th December. You will be notified if you have been successful before Christmas.

Failure to attend on the day with no prior warning could incur a £50 charge

Tea and coffee will be available. You will need to provide your own lunch
