Resilience after Trauma, Children Exposed to Intimate Partner Violence (IPV)

Speaker: Dr Ramona Alaggia

Dr Ramona Alaggia is the Factor-Inwentash Chair in Children's Mental Health, Faculty of Social Work, at the University of Toronto, Canada. She is known for her work on gender based violence, child sexual abuse disclosures, domestic abuse disclosures and help seeking, and child exposure to intimate partner violence.

In this seminar, she will outline the problem of IPV exposure and harmful effects on children and young people using state of the art literature; propose working definitions of resilience for practice using concepts of protective factors, adaptation, and recovery and will make suggestions for practice applications in casework with children and their mothers. Case studies will be provided and also case examples will be invited from the audience for discussion.
