This event is designed for 18-25 year olds.
Join Mestre de Bateria Nayeem Scott of London’s renowned Paraiso School of Samba for an inspiring and immersive exploration of the rhythms that move Brazil — and the world. With over 21 years of experience performing and teaching samba, Nayeem has played across the globe — from the electrifying streets of Rio de Janeiro to the vibrant stages of Tokyo — and now brings his passion home to London.
In this workshop, Nayeem will introduce the roots of samba, its deep cultural significance, and how samba schools form the beating heart of diasporic communities in Brazil. In a time where there is so much tension and unrest in the world, it is a nice experience to find something that allows you to find your own community in these turbulent times.
You’ll also get an up-close look (and listen!) at some of the essential samba instruments, including the Caixa, Repique Mor, 4-Bell Agogô, Tamborim, and Surdo. Expect hands-on demonstrations, rhythmic insight, and the contagious energy of Brazilian percussion.
What to Bring:
- Comfortable clothing
- An open mind and a love of rhythm
- Earplugs are recommended!
Come discover your rhythm, connect with others, and experience the spirit of samba — right here in London.
