About this event

  • Event lasts 5 hours 30 minutes

Cemvo is inviting you to a very exciting event in the heart of Castlemilk!

This event will have two focuses: Connecting with nature through art and taking action for nature conservation as an individual and as part of a community.

The activities will run parallel to each other, so participants need to book which ones they would like to take part in.

The art activities and the guided walk are open for all ages. The talks target adults.

Free lunch will be provided.

Room for prayer will be available.

Travel costs will be reimbursed, so please save your ticket or take a photo.

The art activities are the following:

La BinTucada! — Instrument Crafting, Play, and Conversation in the Community

Come and enjoy a vibrant experience creating instruments and making music rooted in the world of percussion. In a safe and inclusive environment, we will transform plastic bottles, empty buckets, cans, and other objects into colorful percussion instruments. Let’s play together, have fun, and share stories about history and migration through music.

All abilities and ages are welcome. Instruments and materials will be provided.

Collins + Goto Studio – SEE ME | HEAR ME - A plant performance ‘HAKOTO’ and workshop ‘Colours in Nature’.

This performance and the workshop activities rely on attention to experience, perception and empathy while listening and looking. HAKOTO is a body instrument that creates sound with the breath of a tree leaf. Colours in Nature is an activity focused on imitating the colours of nature by mixing watercolours. First we will listen to a leaf, then we will look at and imitate nature.

Talks and discussions:

Discussion on starting a career in nature conservation

This talk will highlight the variety of career options and ways to enter the professional world of nature conservation. Any professional and education background you're coming from, there is a way you can contribute to nature conservation.

The journey of Castlemilk park to becoming a local nature reserve and learn about starting and managing a local nature reserve

Local Nature Reserves are areas of natural heritage that are locally important for people and biodiversity. Castlemilk Park in Glasgow has been declared as Scotland's 100th local nature reserve. During this talk you can learn about Castlemilk Park's journey to becoming a local nature reserve, how the community plays an important role in its protection and maintenance and how you can also involve your community to take steps towards protecting wildlife in your area.

Guided history and wildlife walk in Castlemilk Park

We will go for a guided walk in Castlemilk park with the Community Woodland Officer and learn about local history and wildlife, and see in person the result of the community's work to make the park welcoming for people and nature.
