Event description

Description

Join us at Exeter's Friends Meeting House to explore the stories of Devon's conscientious objectors in the First World War. Researcher Marilyn Smee will look at why some men refused to fight, what happened to conscientious objectors in Devon, and the roles they performed during war time. Marilyn will concentrate particuarly on the experiences of Devon's Quaker community. Following Marilyn's talk, there will be some readings taken from creative writing recently produced in response to the First World War by local Quakers. Tickets are free but places are limited and must be booked in advance. Complimentary tea and cake.
