Event description
An immersion into today’s essential conversation around teacher/student relationships and professional ethics in an unregulated profession.

About this Event

A deep examination of the scope of practice we are trained for as yoga teachers and the safeguards we can expect from defining clear professional boundaries.

WHAT TO EXPECT

  • Engage in practices around consent dialogues, and exercises to refresh the perception and evaluation of our own body states in relation to others
  • Develop attunement, conscious feedback, and touch skills that draw from the field of Somatic Psychology
  • Feel more confident in defining, communicating and teaching within your own professional code of ethics, as well as applying critical thinking to conversations around relational abuse in the yoga world
  • Acquire or refresh the sensitivities and skills needed to exercise respect and trauma-sensitivity towards everyone who enters your teaching scenarios

THE TEACHING TEAM

  • Theodora Wildcroft PhD, Fabiano Culora, Beverley Nolan and Ashley MacDonald.

DETAILED CONTENT:

DAY 1: CONSENT & CHOICE. Tutor: Theo Wildcroft

Seeking consensus on the scope of practice for yoga teachers; what are we trained/not trained to do or be?

Defining the framework of teacher/student relationships and primary considerations for how we as teachers 'contract' with our students

Understanding inclusivity and consent as a practice rather than a preliminary to teaching

Exploring how to make more informed choices about our relationships to commercial entities, yoga-related bureaucracies, and marginalised populations

DAY 2: EMBODIED RELATIONAL DYNAMIC. Tutor: Fabiano Culora

Exploring the concept of embodiment as a process of perceiving and evaluating our own physical sensations

Discovering ways to remain connected to our own embodied experience in relation to others in teacher/student settings

Unpicking the experiences of transference and counter-transference

Uncovering our privileges to better participate in non-violent communication and creative collaboration

DAY 3 THE LITERACY OF TOUCH. Tutors: Ashley MacDonald & Beverley Nolan

Exploring the concept of boundaries and communication through the somatic experience of our own cellular anatomy

Making time for witnessing consciousness and the skills of “holding space” whilst managing judgement and bias

Defining touch not only through touch but also through presence, observation, voice and language

Practicing and evaluating consent scenarios and dialogues
