A free one-day symposium consisting of lectures, workshop sections and advice clinics, focussing on the conservation of modern materials and successful grant applications to the Wellcome Trust for conservation work
9.30 – 10.00: Registration
Arrival at Edinburgh University Main Library and taken to 1st floor Mezzanine.
Tea, coffee and pastries provided.
10.00 – 11.00: Keynote Lecture - Dr Anita Quye (Lecturer in Conservation Science, University of Glasgow)
Topic: Conservation of modern materials in archives.
11.00 – 11.30 – Linda Ramsay (Head of Conservation, National Records of Scotland)
Topic: Heritage Smells! A collaborative project to develop technology to 'sniff' artefacts and detect their level of degradation by taking air samples.
11.30-11.45 – Break
11.45 – 12.15: Ruth Honeybone (Manager, Lothian Health Services Archive)
Topic: Scoping for conservation funding applications.
12.15 – 12.45 - Emily Hick (Project Conservator, Lothian Health Services Archive)
Topic: Postcards, Policies and Prophylactics: Conservation of LHSA’s UNESCO-awarded HIV/AIDS Collections.
12.45-2.00 – Lunch

Topic: Applications to the Wellcome Trust Research Resources Scheme.
2.30 – 3.15: Discussion
Participants can choose one discussion group to attend depending on their interests/concerns.

Refreshments and a buffet are provided free of charge to all delegates attending this symposium.
How do I apply for a bursary for travel and accomadation?
Please contact Emily Hick (emily.hick@ed.ac.uk) for an application form. The deadline for applications is Friday 31st October. Successful applicants will be informed by Friday 14th November. Bursaries will be paid after the event.
How do I book a space on the discussion groups and advice clinics?
A booking form will be sent out two weeks before the event to secure a space on your prefered discussion groups.
Advice clinics can be booked on the day.
