Event description
Construction in a Changing Climate

About this Event

The UK parliament became the first in the world to be symbolically at war with climate change when it declared a national climate emergency on 1 May.

Hundreds of local authorities and other public sector organisations have acknowledged this is an emergency situation; and the governor of the Bank of England has stated plainly that climate risk is a threat we can no longer ignore. Now businesses need to follow suit and acknowledge the key role they will have to play if we are to avert the impending climate catastrophe. Every business of every size, and in every industry can, and must, play their part. And this includes the construction sector.

Constructing Excellence North East has partnered with community interest company Climate Action North to bring together organisations within the construction and other sectors in the North East to discuss the current issues with the climate emergency, what this all means, how this will impact on the day to day running of organisations including procurement and tendering opportunities and ultimately how businesses can take action to mitigate the risks involved and ensure their businesses remain resilient in the changing climate. This conference will also present opportunities to hear from speakers about the mandatory Biodiversity Net Gain system and how this can translate into projects which address key biodiversity issues.
