CONSUMED SYMPOSIA
PART 2 SCHEDULE
6pm - PERFORMANCE: LIVE: The Women’s Art Activation System - A Visit by the Officials from the Bureau for the Validation of Art.
The Women’s Art Activation System (WAAS) is an artist collective formed in 2016 with the aim of activating women’s art.
Principal artists Sharon Bennett and Sarah Dixon collaborate to make live art, performance and socially engaged artworks that question established structures that inhibit and marginalise people. Feminism and institutional critique underpin their work, and humour, kindness and generosity are core to the practice.
For the Consumed exhibition, The WAAS are bringing their performance A Visit by the Officials from the Bureau for the Validation of Art. This interactive artwork investigates and critiques the idea of Validation, and institutional and systemic power processes. The Bureau Officials have performed Validations at the Grace Exhibition Space in New York (via Zoom after the live performance was cancelled due to COVID), Offbeat Performance Art Festival in Oxford, in a solo show at Site Festival, Stroud, at Social Works?: LIVE in Manchester, and at Art Licks London.
