Description

Introduced and moderated by Monica Capuani

Curated and moderated by Monica Capuani, “Contemporary” is a series of encounters – conversations, readings and live performances – presenting to the British audience an authoritative overview of Italian contemporary theatre. Italian actors, playwrights and directors, both acclaimed masters and successful new voices, talk about their artistic research and discuss with important figures of British contemporary theatre.

Guests of this new encounter will be Fausto Paravidino and Ramin Gray, who will talk about their things in common in their last researches, in particular in their recent collaborations at the Royal Court Theatre.

Fausto Paravidino (1976) started his professional career on stage in 1990, as part of the company "La Soffitta". He made his film debut in 1999, appearing in Pupi Avati's La via degli angeli. In 2004 he won the Vittorio Gassman Prize for the drama play Natura morta in un fosso. Paravidino made his directorial film debut in 2005 with Texas, which was screened in the Horizons section at the 62nd edition of the Venice Film Festival and got him a Pasinetti Award. For this film he was also nominated for David di Donatello for Best New Director and for Nastro d'Argento in the same category and for Best Original Story. Paravidino was the eighth Italian author to be presented at the Comédie-Française in Paris, with the play La malattia della famiglia M which he also directed. Other of his works were adapted in German and presented in various theatres, including at the Schaubühne am Lehniner Platz in Berlin. In 2017 he was appointed Resident Dramaturg at the Teatro Stabile in Turin.

Ramin Gray is a theatre director and currently Artistic Director of ATC (Actors Touring Company) Theatre. After directing, designing and acting in many plays at University, he began directing professionally in 1988 with a production of John Marston’s The Malcontent at the Latchmere Theatre in London. He extensively collaborated with theatres abroad, staging plays in Germany, France, Austria, Iraq, Russia, India.
