Event description

Description

We’re excited to announce a series of talks that have been programmed alongside Callum Rice’s solo exhibition The Failing Light but Polmadie Shines on display in the Studio Pavilion at House for an Art Lover. This series delivered by a variety of academics, writers, artists and historians aims to expand upon some of Callum’s research interests as well as provide an insight into a variety of subjects touched upon by the exhibition.

Taking Callum Rice’s exhibition as its starting point, artist and lecturer Neil Clements will consider contemporary art and its relationship with industrial space. This wide-ranging presentation will look at the repurposing of disused buildings as cultural venues, and the role this has played in the development of cities including Glasgow. It will also trace a number of aesthetic parallels with the exhibition making practices of amongst others Donald Judd, Alan Uglow and Raoul de Keyser, artists for whom the built environment, and in some cases the architecture of sport, served as important touchstones.

Neil Clements is an artist based in Glasgow. He is a lecturer in the Fine Art Critical Studies department at the Glasgow School of Art.
