About the Masterclass:
The session will provide a survey of the recent developments in FinTech and how these are expected to impact consumers, industry and the economy overall. Various technological innovations in financial services will be explored such as Central Bank-issued Digital Currencies (CBDCs), Open APIs, Innovation Ecosystems and Platforms in Banking, and Digital ID in Financial Services, among other things. The session will showcase insights from recent research studies and projects done at the Alliance Manchester Business School and the Centre for Financial Technology Studies (CFTS) at the University of Manchester.
About Professor Markos ZachariadisProfessor of Financial Technology (FinTech) and Chair at Alliance Manchester Business School, Prof. Markos Zachariadis is a globally recognised expert at the intersection of digital innovation, financial technology, and network economics. A member of the World Economic Forum’s Future Council on Responsive Financial Systems and Chief FinTech Advisor to the Competition Authority in Greece, he also serves as a Research Fellow at the University of Cambridge.
His award-winning research published in leading journals such as MIS Quarterly and Research Policy explores the impact of ICT on banking performance, the evolution of payment networks, and the role of data and standards in areas such as Open Banking and SWIFT. Prof. Zachariadis is co-author of The Society for Worldwide Interbank Financial Telecommunication (SWIFT) and co-editor of The PAYTECH Book.
An international keynote speaker, board advisor, and startup mentor, he has addressed and advised global organisations including the Bank of England, UK Parliament, World Bank, Microsoft, and SWIFT, and is regularly featured in global media such as the Financial Times, Bloomberg, BBC, and CNN. Prof. Zachariadis holds a PhD and MSc from the London School of Economics.
