Event description

Description

A two-day masterclass for those interested in exploring a diverse range of contemporary practices in portrait painting, catering to all levels of experience.

Working from life or from photographs, participants will explore how to evaluate and learn from old master paintings. Issues around choosing good photographs and translating from photography to painting will be addressed and discussion will focus upon conceptual and critical issues, the context of source material and the use of titles.

Michael Fullerton is based in Glasgow and a tutor at Glasgow School of Art. He was awarded a Visual Arts residency at Cove Park in 2012 and exhibitions nationally and internationally. His practice expresses his long-standing interest in the theoretical aspects of painting and the act of looking. He is particularly concerned with issues surrounding the status and role of contemporary painting in a society dominated by the mass media, and the relationship between painting and the public domain.

The fee for this masterclass covers self-catered overnight accommodation on the Saturday night. Please get in touch if you would like to book additional nights.

The minimum age requirement for this event is 18.

Please note, we offer a full refund if you cancel your place at least 14 days prior to the course start date, after this a refund is unavailable unless in exceptional circumstances or we cancel the event.
