The Content Creation Building Blocks Course will take you through the popular and common stages of creating the specific elements that make up most video and image based content. Over 4 weeks (4 times per year, twice per semster) we will take you through using your own devices, phones and HELIX equipment and Studios to produce consistent and professional looking content.

Each week you will learn how to produce a popular element of content creation culminating in a session allowing you to edit your content more efficiently and impactfully.

The program focuses on the key aspects of content creation and provide the best techniques and tools to create high-quality content. Users will benefit most from attending every session, but each session is framed to allow you to attend individual sessions that interest you.

Most sessions will take place in Studio 2 or the XR Space/XRDevelopment Zone.

# 1 Establishing Content Creation techniques and Filming a Sequence

6th October/3rd November/2nd February/2nd March - 11.30-1.00pm (XR Space)

This session will introduce elements of content creation as well focusing on the processes required to film a successful video sequence. The session will examine the methods and techniques to produce a short 5 shot sequence. We will look at the best frame sizes, angles and camera movement to create this sequence. As well as looking at how resolution can help you create additional camera angles


#2 Filming an Interview, lighting and Studio 2 (Studio 2)

13th October/10th November/9th February/9th March - 11.30-1.00pm

This session will focus on the processes required to film and light a successful interview. We will use the studio to examine the methods and techniques to produce a 2 person interview, as well as introducing the Studio 2 space and its assoicated tech. We will introduce microphones and techniques most suitable to your content creation situations. Both cameras and phones will be used in the session.


#3 Studio Photography - Portrait and Products (Studio 2)

20th October/17th November/16th February/16th March - 11.30-1.00pm

This session will focus on the use of the Studio 2 space for photography. We will explore the use of studio flash with reflectors and light modifiers, in combination with HELIX's Canon R5C camera (or your own camera). The styles of High Key and Low Key photography will be explored for portraits and headshots. Whilst use of of our 360 photodome and studio lights will be explored for product photography.


#4 Editing: Techniques and story telling (XR Dev Zone)

27th October/23rd November/23rd February/23rd March - 11.30-1.00pm

This session will focus on editing any content shot in previous weeks and any footage you wish to bring along. We will look at the editing platfroms of Da Vinci Resolve and/or Adobe Premiere. Techniques to speed up your editing will be demonstrated and post production techniques highlight to help you create engaging content for your audience.


Supplementing this course will be weekly drop in Content Creation Surgery sessions on Wednesdays 1 to 2pm in the HELIX Enterprise Zone
