Event description

Description

To help public sector organisations deal with the WCAG 2.1 accessibility legislation update, we’ve launched our new content accessibility course.

This practical 1-day course gives your content and marketing teams the skills they need to create content that meets the WCAG 2.1 guidelines.

We will cover:

- WCAG 2.1 guidelines
- what it means for your content
- motor, visual, audio, speech, cognitive
- using colour and type alternative formats
- alt text, link text and page structure for a variety of access needs
- media considerations

Please note this course is all about the content. It's about video, words, images, tables etc. We will not cover:

  • code (we cover alternative descriptions, also known as alt attributes, alt desc or alt tags but it is not a coding course)
  • visual design
  • how to create accessible PDFs (we will give you a reading list to help you)

You will see a variety of tools and techniques that you can use to show colleagues and stakeholders the value of accessibility. We also have a vision kit for you to try on glasses that simulate different conditions.

Context

From January 2020, the Government Digital Service (GDS) will monitor public sector bodies' compliance. GDS will examine a sample of public sector websites every year. This will include intranets, extranets or any public sector website.

1 in 5 people in the UK have a long term illness, impairment or disability. If your site isn't accessible, you are missing a lot of people.
