Dr Dawit Asrat Getahun, Department of Psychology and School of Educational Sciences, College of Education, Bahir Dar University, Ethiopia

With funding from the Cambridge-Africa ALBORADA programme, researchers from Bahir Dar University in Ethiopia and the REAL Centre explored the extent to which secondary school science curricula and teacher classroom practices promote context-based learning. The research specifically examines how science textbook activities and teachers’ instructional approaches draw on contexts relevant to students’ lives and experiences, and how these practices support the development of students’ inquiry skills.

In this seminar, Dr Dawit Asrat Getahun, Associate Professor of Educational Psychology at Bahir Dar University, will present preliminary findings from this collaborative research with Dr Dawit Tibebu Tiruneh of the REAL Centre.
