Mae symposiwm Mamau Cyd-destunol yn dwyn ymarferwyr ac ymchwilwyr ynghyd o bob rhan o’r meysydd iechyd, gofal cymdeithasol, celfyddydau, astudiaethau perfformiad ac astudiaethau mamol ac mae'n cynnwys perfformiad gan y bardd blaenllaw o Gymru Rufus Mufasa a chyflwyniad allweddol gan Dr Rachael Owens.

Man cychwyn y symposiwm hwn yw’r cynnig nad yw bod yn fam yn rhywbeth sy’n bodoli ar ei ben ei hun a bod yn rhaid ei ystyried mewn perthynas â'r cyd-destunau y mae'n digwydd ynddynt. At hynny, gallwn ddysgu llawer am yr amodau rydyn ni’n famau ynddyn nhw drwy wrando ar straeon sydd wedi’u llunio gan artistiaid mewn perthynas â'u profiadau mamol. Bydd ein hamgylchiadau cymdeithasol, ariannol, gwleidyddol a materol bob amser yn ein galluogi i fod y mamau gorau y gallwn fod, neu ein hatal rhag gwneud hynny, ac eto mae model diffygiol yn ystyried mai cyfrifioldeb y fam yn unig yw rhoi gofal. Rydyn ni’n cynnig Mamau Cyd-destunol fel ffordd wahanol o ystyried gofal, fel cyfrifoldeb cymdeithasol a pherthnasol, ac i’n galluogi i glywed lleisiau'r rhai sy'n rhoi gofal mamol drwy'r perfformiadau, y straeon, a’r gweithiau celf maen nhw’n eu rhannu.

Mae Mamau Cyd-destunol yn digwydd fel rhan o brosiect Perfformio Mamol y mae ariannu hael gan yr AHRC wedi ei wneud yn bosibl, ac sydd dan ofal Dr Lena Šimić (Prifysgol Edge Hill), Dr Leah Salter (Bwrdd Iechyd Prifysgol Cwm Taf Morgannwg), a'r Athro Emily Underwood-Lee (Prifysgol De Cymru). Mae'n rhan o'r gyfres o ddigwyddiadau a chynadleddau, Adrodd Storïau am Iechyd, a rhaglen digwyddiadau ymchwil Canolfan Adrodd Storïau George Ewart Evans.

The Contextual Mothering symposium brings together practitioners and researchers from across the fields of health, social care, arts, performance studies, and maternal studies and includes a performance by acclaimed Welsh poet Rufus Mufasa and a keynote presentation by Dr Rachael Owens.

This symposium takes as its starting point, the proposition that mothering never exists in isolation and that it must be examined in relation to the contexts in which it takes place. Further, we can learn much about the conditions in which we mother by listening to stories crafted by artists in relation to their maternal experiences. The social, financial, political, and material surroundings in which we find ourselves will always enable or prevent us mothering to the best of our ability, and yet a deficit model has placed care solely as the responsibility of the mother – we offer Contextual Mothering as an alternative approach for looking at care as a social and relational responsibility and for enabling us to hear the voices of those who mother through the performances, stories, and artworks that they share.

Contextual Mothering takes place as part of the Performance and the Maternal project and is made possible by the generous funding of the AHRC. It is convened by Dr Lena Šimić (Edge Hill University), Dr Leah Salter (Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board), and Prof Emily Underwood-Lee (University of South Wales). It forms part of the Storytelling for Health series of events and conferences, and George Ewart Evans Centre for Storytelling research events programme.
