Guest Speaker – Dr. Carlene Firmin MBE
Dr Carlene Firmin is a Principal Research Fellow at the University of Bedfordshire, where she leads the Contextual Safeguarding programme. Her theory of Contextual Safeguarding has informed policy and research agendas for advancing the protection of adolescents in the UK and internationally, and has led to changes in social care responses to extra-familial abuse in England, Wales and Scotland. Carlene has spent over a decade researching young people’s experiences of community and group-based violence and advocated for comprehensive approaches that keep them safe in public places, schools and peer groups. She has worked with practitioners across the UK to co-create contextual interventions and develop Contextual Safeguarding systems. In 2011 Carlene became the youngest black woman to receive an MBE for her seminal work on gang-affected young women in the UK.
This is a free webinar for managers and practitioners in both adult and children services, working in all statutory and third sector agencies, services and organisations in Aberdeen, Aberdeenshire and Moray. This event will cover; What is Contextual Safeguarding? How does this work for multi-agency staff? What impact does this have on children, young people, and their families? and some good practice examples.
