Contextual Safeguarding Workshop

Who is it for?

Social workers and those working with young people and families/carers. This workshop is mandatory for all social workers working within Children and Families Services.

What will I learn?

This workshop aims to develop
understanding in contextual safeguarding and explore how to protect young people who are at risk.

By the end of this workshop participants will be (better) able:

  • Define contextual safeguarding and identify the social contexts in which risk occurs.
  • Develop an approach to protect those at risk of contextual safeguarding.
  • Understand and apply the Good Lives Model and how this can be used to strengthen protective factors.
  • Apply this to your practice and caseload

Notes

During adolescence the nature of the risks faced by young people, and the way that they experience these risks, often differs from earlier childhood, as do their needs. Specifically, young people may be faced with a new set of complex risks, ones not posed by families, but instead by peers, partnersand adults unconnected to families. Contextual safeguarding seeks to identify and respond to harm and abuse posed to young people outside their home, either from adults or other young people.
