About this Event

Across the GW4 there is a depth of expertise on water-related research relevant to the towns and cities of sub-Saharan Africa. Currently, much of this research is fragmented across disciplines and institutions. Leaders of three independent and complementary research projects across the GW4 universities have joined forces to explore the synergy between their respective programmes of work and identify areas for future collaboration, to ultimately benefit for the African societies in the countries where their work is focused.

A clear opportunity to strengthen the research profile of the GW4 Water Security Alliance (WSA) has been identified. This can be achieved through the formation of a Special Interest Water Research Group (SIWRG), through the WSA, promoting engagement between a range of researchers working on urban water themes in Sub-Saharan Africa. Ancillary benefits will include the sharing of contacts to promote the development of a wider community and the potential to facilitate future collaborative research bids.

This grouping will be facilitated by the GW4 - WSA and will contribute to the network of SIWRGs that have been created by the WSA. It is proposed that the Group initially operate through arranging a series of ‘get to know you’ events, including this Continental Breakfast, through which a core of interested researchers can be identified, alongside a wider number of researchers who may wish to be associated with the SIWRG but not consider themselves as core members.
