From Oct 27 - Nov 1st we welcome Contours & Dan Valentine to undertake a residency at Cobalt & this performance will be a sharing session of the work they develop during their time with us.
"During our residency we are looking to explore our combined creative approaches to live performance, exploring the intersection between organic percussive timbres and synthetic textures. Our approach merges polyrhythmic drum machine programming and percussive improvisation with pointillist synth work, luscious sound design and dub wise aesthetics."

Contours’ productions are informed by his background as a percussionist, incorporating tactile polyrhythmic interplay, meditative ambience and cyclical minimalism with sounds more often heard spilling out of dark basement clubs. His work navigates the threshold between the electronic and the organic, where improvised gestures meet sequenced form.
Releases on imprints such as Music From Memory, Rhythm Section International, and Slow Life reflect his position within a network of artists blurring the edges of club music, Jazz and contemporary composition.

Dan Valentine is an electronic musician whose work as part of Rainer Veil channelled elements drawn from across the hardcore continuum; rewiring jungle, UKG, and ambient to create bass-heavy, abstract formations that Mixmag described as "beautiful, haunting, euphoric - 10/10". Their releases on Manchester's Modern Love imprint received support from Björk, Bicep, and Lee Gamble, and saw the duo perform hardware-focused performances internationally, including Berghain, Boiler Room and Golden Pudel.
Since then, Dan has been carving out a crystalline, digital sound, that favours weightless, dub-indebted mechanics and blissed-out harmonics, debuting collaborative multi-channel commissions for Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival and Cafe Oto.

We also welcome Jinjé (aka Lee Malcolm) to the line-up.
As a founding member of the Leeds-based experimental band Vessels, Jinjé (aka Lee Malcolm) is no stranger to breaking the boundaries of genre. With his solo project he delves into progressive sonic explorations that navigate between acoustic and electronic, synthetic and organic, employing a learned ear for the fusion of seemingly disparate elements. Detailed layers of ethereal texture meet punchy synth-work, shimmering pads meet broken and affected vocals, all with a deep groove and a surreal catchiness.
