Contraband and Commerce

The second seminar for the International Port and Maritime Studies Network seminar series will be held on Friday 21 July in Room 121, John Foster Building, Liverpool John Moores University. This event is in partnership with Liverpool John Moores University, the Centre for Port and Maritime History and the Royal Historical Society.

The two presenters will be:

Alex Taylor (University of Sheffield) Bristol’s first tawny age: the tobacco trade to Bristol in the seventeenth century

Benjamin Jennings (Swansea University) The free traders go underground; the fight against smuggling and the development of organised crime in South Wales 1765-1853
