Controversial Issues In Contemporary Documentary Filmmaking: The Inheritors...
Wed 27 April 2016, 16:00 – 18:00 BST
The School of the Arts is delighted to present
The Inheritors (Eugenio Polgovsky, 2008, Mexico), followed by Q&A with the director [this screening is part of the Media and Politics Research Seminar from the Communication & Media department, co-organised with Dr. David Hill]
The Inheritors depicts the lives of worker children and peasants in the Mexican countryside. They have inherited skills and tools from their parents but their lives are scarred by poverty and hard work. The film sparked a heated debate in Mexico and France about child labour and had record attendances in Mexico itself. Among other awards it won the Gran Premio Coral at the prestigious International Film Festival in Cuba. Referring to The Inheritors, Le Monde called Polgovsky ‘a magician of cinema’.
Free attendance, all welcome.
