Conversation & Community Night (English, Spanish and Portuguese)

One of the most amazing things about speaking another language is making new friends and understanding different world views 🥰

Join our Roots Up Languages community of English, Spanish and Portuguese learners and native speakers at El Rancho de Lalo, a family run Colombian restaurant on Buckner Road in Brixton.

Our Conversation & Community nights are the perfect way to improve your language skills in real life scenarios and meet new people in London.

All language levels are welcome!

How does it work ?

Thursday 2nd May- SPEED FRIENDING

The event runs for 2 hours !

7 - 7.30pm: Welcome activity. You'll also be able to buy drinks and snacks (gotta love a Colombian empanada!) at the bar.

7.30pm - 8.30pm : Speed friending. You will be paired with a learner or native speaker to chat for 7 minutes before swapping. We will give you speaking prompts!

8.30 - 9pm - General conversation. There will also be an activity corner, with cards to Connect 4 so you can play games with your new amig@s.

Where and when is the ´event?

The event is at ´´El Rancho de Lalo Colombian restaurant right by Brixton Town Hall.

Lalo serves up tasty homemade food with a lot of love! You can always grab dinner here before the event if you fancy it :) There will also be drinks and snacks on offer during the Community and Conversation´´ event.

¿Cómo funciona?

19 - 19.30 h: Actividad de bienvenida. Oprtunidad de comprar bebidas y empanadas en el bar.
19.30 - 20.30 h: Speed ​​friending. Se te emparejará con un alumno o hablante nativo para charlar durante 7 minutos antes de realizar el intercambio.
20.30 - 21 h - Conversación general. También habrá un rincón de actividades, con cartas para que puedas jugar con tus nuev@s amig@s.

O evento dura duas horas!

19h às 19h30: Atividade de boas-vindas. Oportunidade de comprar bebidas e empanadas no bar.

20h -20.30h - "Speed friending." Você será acompanhado por um aluno ou falante nativo para conversar por 7 minutos antes de trocar de parceiro. Lhe daremos perguntas para facilitar a conversa.

20.30h-21h - Conversa informal. Haverá também uma zona de atividades, com cartas e jogos de tabuleiro para jogar com seus novos amigos. Você pode comprar bebidas e empanadas durante o evento.
