Conversation with Myroslav Laiuk - Writers' Responsibility in Wartime

By Cambridge University Ukrainian Society

Overview

Discussion and book presentation with a Ukrainian writer and war reporter Myroslav Laiuk.

Myroslav's book “Bakhmut” (2023) received Ukraine’s Yurii Shevelov Prize and was shortlisted for the BBC Ukraine Book of the Year and Canada’s Peterson Prize. His essays and reporting have appeared in The Dial, Eurozine, LitHub, Los Angeles Review of Books, and New Statesman.

Myroslav will present “Bakhmut” (2023) and discuss the writers' responsibility in times of war - how Ukraine’s literary community has transformed since 2022 from artistic observers to chroniclers of moral and historical truth. His talk will also address how writers negotiate ethical representation of violence, grief, and heroism. This will be followed by a moderated conversation and audience Q&A.
