Mental Health Minefield: Stories from the Frontline



Prof Lynne Gabriel


From her long history of work in the mental health field, Professor Lynne Gabriel will bring personal and professional experiences and anecdotes to inform and enliven her talk. Be prepared to be engaged!

Lynne will talk about the work of York St John’s Counselling & Mental Health Clinic, which she founded and directs. With reference to the ‘cast of characters’ involved in delivering the clinic services, Lynne will share powerful and poignant examples from the clinic’s mental health work and will highlight research, giving examples of publications and ongoing projects.

Lynne will draw from her personal, professional and academic worlds to talk about the significance of people being able to experience mental health moments and to outline the challenges of mental ill-health for individuals and communities.

Biography

Professor Lynne Gabriel is Professor of Counselling and Mental Health at York St John and a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.

Lynne is founder and director of CMHC, York St John University's Counselling and Mental Health Clinic. The clinic provides accessible, affordable psychological therapy services and specializes in counselling for domestic abuse and violence, anger management and bereavement.

Lynne is a Fellow of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and has served as the Association’s Chair (2008-2011), Immediate Past Chair (2012-2014) and now Emeritus Chair. She is currently Chair of BACP’s Good Practice Guidance Steering Group and working with BACP to provide web-based ethical decision-making resources for practitioners, to compliment current practice guidance literature. Lynne is a BACP Accredited and Registered Counsellor and Psychotherapist.
