PARTICIPANTS

This conference will be of interest to solicitors, trainee solicitors and other legal professionals who work in conveyancing.

SPEAKERS

Dr Andrew Steven, University of Edinburgh. Dr Andrew Steven is a Senior Lecturer in the Law School. In August 2011 he was appointed to the Scottish Law Commission for five years where he was the Commissioner responsible for property law reform. This appointment was renewed for a further three years in August 2016. He was the lead Commissioner for the Scottish Law Commission's Report on Moveable Transactions (Scot Law Com No 249, 2017), the lead Commissioner for the Report on Prescription and Title to Moveable Property (Scot Law Com No 228, 2012) and the Report on Section 53 of the Title Conditions (Scotland) Act 2003 (Scot Law Com No 254, 2019). He led the current project on heritable securities until his term as a Commissioner ended in August 2019.

Debra Clapham, Partner, Claphams Solicitors. Debra has been involved in legal education in Glasgow for some 16 years including a position as Senior Tutor and Course Director in Conveyancing at the University of Glasgow. She was a part time lecturer in conveyancing and property law at Glasgow Caledonian University. She is frequently invited to speak to colleagues on matters of conveyancing and is the editor of a manual on property law and conveyancing which is circulated Scotland wide to practitioners and students.

Donald Reid, Partner, Mitchells Roberton. Donald became a Partner in Mitchells Roberton in 1978. He is a specialist in property law dealing mainly in commercial transactions, security work and property related company matters. Donald lectured and tutored on the Diploma in Legal Practice for 20 years, he speaks widely at professional seminars and conferences and has contributed articles and chapters to various journals and publications. Donald is currently Dean of the Royal Faculty of Procurators in Glasgow.

Roslyn MacDonald, Senior Solicitor, Harper Macleod. Roslyn specialises in planning and environmental law, advising a range of clients including planning authorities, statutory consultees, developers, landowners, and objectors. Roslyn's advisory work includes providing advice on planning and environmental legislation, planning policy including development plans, planning enforcement matters, and planning appeals.
