Cooking an authentic Kenyan meal with Nimoh
Event Information
About this Event
What you will do
During this experience you’ll be introduced to traditional Kenyan home cooking which you can enjoy at the comfort of your own kitchen. The recipes are really simple and the ingredients are easily available no matter your location.
Minji Stew is a Kenyan dish made of green peas, carrots, meat and sometimes potatoes. The origin of the meal is from central Kenya. It is cooked and enjoyed by mostly the Kikuyu, Ameru and Embu tribes. The Minji Stew is accompanied by soft layered Chapatis, Rice or Mukimo with veggies. Chapati is a flat unleavened bread.
Nimoh is from the Kikuyu tribe and they serve this dish on all their traditional ceremonies like traditional weddings (Ruracios), funerals, baptisms, rites of passage, graduation parties, family get togethers etc, literally any ceremony you can think of. Green peas are locally grown within the central region of Kenya and are readily available in all households. They use green peas in a variety of meals but this recipe stands out because it is something you absolutely cannot miss in a Kikuyu homestead. Nimoh actually cooks this meal 2-3 times a week for her family.
