Event description
We are hosting an online interactive modeling session to get to a more systematic understanding of contemporary refugee problems in the EU.

About this Event

The refugee crisis in Europe

What are the causes of the refugee crisis? What are the main impacts of refugees coming to Europe? Is the way in which refugees are being treated ethically responsible and could the situation be improved? What can we do as a society and as private organizations to help refugees find employment and fully function in a European society? What could be done to improve the situation together?

Join us in a live discussion and systems mapping

If you are interested in any of these questions, Young Modeler invites you to join in an open online event: A Systems Modeling Webinar for Cooperation in the EU refugee crisis. We faciliate an open dialogue with social leaders, professionals, scientists, business owners, students and all others who are interested in the topic to identify the nature of these problems as well as important obstacles that are preventing cooperation towards finding real solutions. Everyone who is interested is very welcome to join, also if you think you do not know a lot about the issues!

A systems thinking approach

This will be an interactive session with advanced modeling software that enables us to translate your views and knowledge into a simulation model that can help to find solutions and teach us more about the issues. The simulation model will be based on system dynamics methodology, which was developed to address complex problems in systems of many interrelated factors that change over time. Do not worry if you have never seen a system dynamics model before. As the event is not meant just for modelers, modeling activities will be clearly explained in easy terms and the focus of the session will be on content. Learn more about systems modeling and systems thinking here.

Your input matters!

You as participants will have the opportunity to decide which way we will go in the session and what the resulting systems model will look like. It has not been determined where exactly the session will take us and on which specific issues we will focus - that is up to you!

Join us on 27 January 2019 at 4 PM (16.00) CET. We will send you a link that you can use to enter the session without having to install any additional software on your device. If you are on Facebook, please also join the discussion beforehand on our event page.

Your hosts

YoungModeler.net is a platform and network for all students, researchers and young practitioners who are interested in systemic problems, systems thinking and modeling complex problems. Its aim is to extend conversations beyond classrooms, workplaces and to connect across geographical, institutional and disciplines’ boundaries as well as to raise awareness about systems approaches in the general public.

This interactive online session is hosted in cooperation with students from the European Master Programme in System Dynamics and the social business start up Art of Cooperation.

The session will be facilitated by Luuk Leemans (PhD student at Radboud University Nijmegen), Laurens Reumers (PhD student at Maastricht University) and Julio Barajas (Master student System Dynamics at Radboud University Nijmegen).
