Copperplate Script and Decorative Flourishing for Calligraphers, Tattoo Artists and Signwriter
8th and 9th of May : 10AM - 6PM
My husband is covered in tattoos and one of the things that fascinated me was how some of the lettering was executed. I questioned both him and many of his friends who are tattoo artists and one thing came up which surprised me, I kept hearing how afraid tattoo artists are of lettering because they have little formal training in it, and consequently shy away from it, or simply pass the work on to others whom the feel would work better with letterforms. This course developed out of friends who tattoo letters, who wanted a more structured approach to both lettering and technical construction of flourishing to accompany the lettering. I thought expanding the course to an allied field would prove an interesting interaction and so I opted to add Signwriter to this class. The class will look at copperplate script, which is the basis of Chicano Script. I have come up with with a new structure to teach the script and so we will look at writing the script with a brush, for the obvious reasons that a brush can be used directly unto the skin and outlined from there. For the Signwriter, the application is blatant! If you have struggled with hand lettering or would like to improve you understanding and application of the craft with your practice, this course is for you.
