Disability and ASN Adventure Camps are coming to Aberdeenshire this summer for 8 - 17-year-olds & their families. Free to attend!

    About this event

Thanks to Get Into Summer and sportscotland funding kindly distributed to Grampian Disability Sport by Aberdeenshire ClubSport, we're delighted to be able to offer a series of half-day adventure camps for people living in Aberdeenshire with disabilities and additional support needs aged 8 - 17, and their families.

The camps will take place at Lochter Activity Centre just outside Oldmeldrum and there is no charge to attend. Activities will be led by Lochter staff, and Alison from Scottish Disability Sport will be in attendance at all sessions to offer guidance & support, but all child attendees must be accompanied by a parent or carer (who can opt to book a space to participate too or solely attend to support the person they care for). There are limited spaces available on a first-come-first-served basis.

For morning camps, please feel free to bring your packed lunch to enjoy after the activities have finished. Refreshments are also available in the on-site cafe.  All camps will provide 3 activity sessions & each camp will last approximately 3 hours.

All activity-specific equipment will be provided by Lochter, but please make sure you have a change of clothes and wet weather clothing to hand in case of adverse weather. An accessible toilet is available on-site, although it does not have a changing table. If you think your child would require any specialist equipment or modifications in order to participate in the adventure camp, please let us know in your application form & we'll call you to discuss.

Dates for the adventure camps are as follows:

Friday 16th July: 09:30 start: Activities will be off-road buggy driving, target rifle shooting and mini Highland Games (please note that youngsters will be in charge of steering the off-road vehicles)

Tuesday 20th July: 13:30 start: Activities will be raft building, archery and fly fishing

Thursday 22nd July: 09:30 start: Activities will be go karting, segway challenge and water zorbing (please note that only single-seater karts are available & water zorbing is for juniors only due to weight restrictions).

Wednesday 28th July: 13:30 start: Activities will be the digger challenge, raft building and archery (please note that the digger is single-seater and slightly elevated so may not be accessible for those with profound physical disabilities).

Thursday 29th July: 09:30 start: Activities will be go karting, kayaking and target golf (please note that only single-seater karts and kayaks are available)

Monday 2nd August: 09:30 start: Activities will be target rifle shooting, segway challenge and kayaking (please note that only single-seater kayaks are available).

Monday 9th August: 13:30 start: Activities will be target golf, off-road buggy driving and water zorbing (please note that youngsters will be in charge of steering the off-road vehicles & water zorbing is for juniors only due to weight restrictions)

    Important notes!

    - You MUST live in Aberdeenshire to attend these Camps due to funding restrictions

    - All children attending must be between 8 and 17-years-old

-At least one child attending from your group should have a disability or additional support need

-All children should be accompanied by a parent or carer aged 16+ who will assume complete responsibility for the young person they care for (including providing all additional support they require)

-Attending adults can book a space to participate in the activities too, but should bear in mind that no other additional support or supervision is available for their young person whilst the adult is participating

-Application does not guarantee a space. We will contact you if we have queries about eligibility for the Camp

-Although we will do our best to be as accessible as possible (providing specialist equipment to aid participation where available), we may not be able to accommodate those with very severe and complex needs due to the nature of the activities on offer. In these cases, we will do our best to signpost to alternative activities.
