Overview

Let's dive deep into the tangled web of mental health and shame - join us for an open discussion that'll challenge your perspective!

This event is part of the ongoing Uncomfortable Conversation series—a journey that began online during the 2020 lockdown. Back then, we tackled the taboos within my community and explored how they echoed in wider society, sparked by the George Floyd tragedy and unfolding against the backdrop of pre-vaccine uncertainty.

Five years on, we’re bringing that conversation into the room—face-to-face.

This time the lens is wider: reflecting on the Journey itself, and how themes of family, friendships, relationships, and work shape who we are.

Mental health matters, and shame can deeply affect our well-being.

Together, Bryan Bonaparte, Senior Lecturer in Psychology, Karl Donaldson, Psychology alumnus, and guests will share stories, insights, and honest conversations.

Each month, discussions on topics such as:

  • Mental health taboos – the stories we tell ourselves
  • Growth and silence – comfort zones?
  • The power of words in shaping personal growth
  • Relationships – the silent battles we fight
