What is it? Laughter yoga is based on the fact that fake voluntary laughter provides the same health benefits than real spontaneous laughter. During a laughter yoga session we practice laughter exercises combined with deep breathing, childlike playfulness and relaxation.
There is no use of comedy or humor in laughter yoga. The brain can differentiate between fake and real laughter of course, but the body produces the same happy hormones. Fake laughter, like real laughter, increases the intake of oxygen and kick starts the production of endorphines, the happy hormones while lowering the levels of cortisol, the stress hormone. In laughter yoga we engage the diaphragm and prolong the length of laughter emptying the lungs from stale air as we do when practicing pranayama ( yogic breathing exercises) to maximize all the benefits! With childlike play, eye contact and commitment to participate and letting go of inhibitions, fake laughter soon transforms into real contagious laughter leaving you exhilarated and relaxed!
The class usually runs every first and third Monday of the month ( no bank holidays). For updates on cancellations and other classes, like the page facebook.com/ahahlaughteryoga.
There is a suggested but discretionary £3-£5 donation at the door for this class to help me cover my costs of running the class ( meet up, fliers, childcare, travel and time). If you can donate it will be very much appreciated. If you can give less or you cannot make a donation you are welcome to join any way, so feel free to come and have fun.
Please consult with your GP before taking on any new exercise classes. Laughteryoga is not suitable if you have high blood pressure, hernia or if you recently had an operation. During the excercise we will engage the diaphram exhaling deeply through laughter and breathing in excercise. Please do not attend if you cannot perform aerobic exercises.
