Copy of Exploring Art That Made Us: Week 3
Overview
About the Series
This Autumn, you’re invited to a unique series of eight free evening classes led by John Astley, Sociologist of Culture, writer, and long-time columnist for the Exmouth Journal.
Together, we’ll explore the acclaimed BBC series Brilliant Isles: Our Untold History Revealed Through Art—a landmark production by ClearStory in collaboration with The Open University, later developed into a book by historian James Hawes.
Each session will begin with a group screening of one episode, followed by an hour of lively discussion and debate. With John’s guidance, we’ll reflect on the central themes of the series: how art and creativity have shaped our personal identities, influenced our cultural values, and defined what it means to be a nation.
