Copy of Mine Heritage Tour

Find out about the last working deep iron ore site in Western Europe and one of the last visible remains of the once huge iron industry in West Cumbria.

Starting from Florence Arts Centre (the old shower block of the mine) our volunteer will tell you about the site as you tour the outside of the buildings. We are working with local people to get a better understanding of the stories - find out what we have discovered so far and perhaps even meet folk with their own stories to tell!

Come prepared for all weathers with sensible footwear and a raincoat.

It is not possible to enter any of the buildings or go down the mine unfortunately. The tour is by agreement with the site's manager. Please remain with the guide at all times. The site is not normally accessible to visitors and is not managed by Florence Arts Centre.
