"UPCYCLE MY GARMENT" TEENAGE SUMMER WORKSHOPS

Come join us at our in-person event in Barking, east London! Learn how to upcycle your old clothes into trendy new pieces at our teenage girls summer workshops. The workshops will be held at unit 33, Vicarage Field Shopping Centre, Ripple Road Barking, IG11 8DH. Get creative, meet new friends, and leave with a revamped wardrobe!

We encourage that each attendee brings in something they may want to upcycle, eg

  • A pair of Jeans trousers, (any colour, but denim even better)
  • A denim skirt
  • A Single use T-shirt or plain coloured or white T-shirt
  • Jeans Jacket
  • Fabric canvas shoes or trainers that can be painted
  • Or anything you think can be upcycled, it could event be a bucket hat/ baseball cap

All other materials will be provided for on the day.

We will allow ages 10 -16 yr Girls as requested by the funders

Frequently asked questions

Can my 10 or 11 year old attend this workshop, it states from 12 years old?

Due to how Eventbrite is set up it did not allow me to start age from 10, so I can confirm that this workshop is funded specifically for girls aged 10 -16years old. Yes your 10 or 11 year old can attend.

Can attendees bring something that has not been mentioned above for upcycling?

Yes you can, as long as it can be painted, stitched, glued, dyed, if not sure send us a message .

How long is the session?

It is 3 hours in total with a 30min break.

Will food be provided for attendees ?

There will be light refreshment such water and drinks, with some fruit, but we will encourage that they come with a packed lunch.

Kemi Oloyede is the Creative director of the Sew London Project, Eco warrior / educator. Kemi has run several collaborative Sewing /Upcycling workshops in 2018 with Everyone Everyday.

A chance meeting with Helen Pankhurst and 100 sashes later with 10 special ones that were commissioned in African print suggested by Kemi, took pride of place on the #March4Women march in 2018 in Central London, 100th year of Suffragettes. The Royal wedding was the highlight of 2018 when she was also commissioned to make an amazing outfit for one of the Royal wedding guest.

She has 20 years experience working in secondary and further education – Art and Textile technology. A fashion designer of many years she took the bold plunge to set up The Sew London Project which runs Sewing classes, one day workshops and a sewing club for Children and Adults.  As well as providing a bespoke fashion design service. She is a passionate about ethical fashion and her label Recyclothes.com and she offers a course all about recycling items into re-purposed gifts.
