Copyright is an important intellectual property right.
The session will provide an introduction to copyright and how you can use it to protect your work and stop others from copying and benefiting from it.
The session will be relevant to those who create original work. This may be in the form of stories, articles, photography, illustrations, instruction manuals and software.
The learning outcomes from the session will be:
An understanding of copyright
An understanding of the rights that copyright gives to the creator of the work
An understanding of what copyright prevents others from doing
How you can give rights to others to your work
Practical steps you can take to protect and secure your work
The session will look at Copyright as it applies in the UK.
It will be delivered by Colin Sawdy. Colin is a partner at Sheridans specialising in trade marks, copyright and designs.
This event is part of the Intellectual Property Focus series of enterprise events at London South Bank University.
Refreshments are provided and there will be an opportunity to network. This event is free to attend and everyone is welcome.

What is the Intellectual Property Focus series of events?
We hold free talks and workshops led by leading IP experts and advisors aimed at helping you to best utilise your IP rights.
Events are free to attend, with refreshments and networking at each session.
*What is the Certificate in Enterprise?
LSBU students and alumni can obtain a certificate in enterprise by attending a minimum of 6 Start & Evolve, Develop & Grow and IP Focus events throughout the academic year. What support is available to students who wish to start a business at LSBU?
There is a package of support available to help you start your entrepreneurial journey at LSBU. Through events, workshops and start-up schemes, you will be supported to develop your entrepreneurial knowledge and skills.
I am not a Student or Alumni member of LSBU. Can I still attend the event?
Yes, our events are open to all members of the public, as well as our students, staff and alumni. All we ask is that you come with the willingness to learn something new and an entrepreneurial mind-set.
What are my transport options getting to the event?
By train and tube – Southwark and Elephant & Castle stations are a 5 minute walk from LSBU’s campus. Lambeth North, Waterloo and London Bridge are a 15minute walk or a short bus-ride.
We do not offer parking. See a map of LSBU’s campus.
Do I have to bring a printed ticket to the event?
No – please turn up at the address specified on the events page and bring or show your confirmation email
