Duration: 3 hours
Target Audience: People who work or volunteer with children and young people and may be in a position to spot safeguarding concerns.
Session Aim:
This course will provide participants with learning that will help them to meet the Core Competencies of the LLR Safeguarding Children Competency Framework. It is a foundation course for those who are in positions where they may spot safeguarding concerns, or someone may tell them that they are being harmed.
Session Objectives:
Understand what is meant by safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and how this impacts on your role.
Understand the legal context of safeguarding
Know the different forms of abuse and neglect
Be aware of some of the signs and indicators that might cause concern
Know what makes children and young people more vulnerable to abuse and neglect.
Understand the statutory requirements governing consent, confidentiality and information sharing
Understand recording and reporting procedures within the context of your own work
Understand the barriers to sharing concerns
