Core Empowerment Workshop

Join STAND for a full-day Empowerment Workshop designed primarily for parents and carers of neurodivergent children.

Build your confidence, strengthen your knowledge, and learn how to use your voice effectively when navigating systems such as education, health, and local authorities.

Professionals and others involved in the care and support of neurodivergent children are also very welcome to attend, but please note that the focus of the workshop is on the experiences and needs of families.

The session works best as a full day session but we understand that isn't always suitable for parents and carers who struggle with childcare. Therefore we have decided to offer some tickets as morning or afternoon sessions only. Each of those tickets options still includes lunch so you can benefit from meeting others in the same position as you and learning from each others experiences.

Morning Session (10:00am – 12:30pm): Empowerment Fundamentals

Learn the essential tools to advocate for your child and family.

We’ll cover practical topics such as:

• Writing effective emails and managing meetings
• Making applications and complaints
• Accessing information and understanding decision-making
• Disability benefits

Lunch (12:30pm – 1:30pm)

A light lunch is provided.

This is an opportunity to connect with other parents and carers, and to chat informally with STAND volunteers about shared experiences and challenges.

Afternoon Session (1:30pm – 4:00pm): Your Rights and Using Them

Understand what your rights are – and how to use them.

This session explores:

• How our democracy works and how to use it to be heard
• The Equality Act and how it protects you
• Education and housing rights
• Enforcement – what to do when things go wrong

Part Day (Morning + Lunch) or (Lunch + Afternoon) – £10
