Core Foundations yoga workshop
Sat 23 September 2017, 15:15 – 17:15 BST
People often think of core work in yoga as just strengthening the muscles in the abdomen, but it’s actually more about cultivating a connection with the core of your body, in order to be able to move with more confidence and safety through your yoga practice.
In terms of asana practice, core connection and the awareness of this area improves nearly every pose, offering a greater sense of balance and ease. During your everyday life - beyond your yoga practice - there are also many good reasons to build a strong core, for example to support the lower back.
We’ll be going deep with our exploration…looking beyond the superficial ‘6-pack’ muscles and including a discussion of anatomy to understand the broader range of muscles that make up our core. Alongside this we’ll also explore the energetic elements of Uddiyana Bandha and Mula Banda (our abdominal and root locks) and how integration and regular use of these can advance your practice.
By learning and applying principles of core engagement and stability to your practice, you reduce the risk of injuries and build a firm foundation and more confidence to explore individual possibilities, whilst also learning when to respect limitations.
This is essential knowledge for any yogi!
This workshop is best suited to students who have at least 6 months of regular yoga practice under their belt. If you’re a complete beginner and are interested in joining, please email me to discuss.
