Reserve your place on this programme delivered one afternoon a month from Sept 17- July 18.

The sessions will be on a Wednesday afternoon term time only, the first session being 20th September, further dates to be confirmed by June 17.

Who should attend?

You should be a middle leader in a school with the responsibility of leading a team, for example:

  • a key stage leader
  • a subject leader
  • a head of department
  • a new AHT
  • an SLE
  • a lead influencer in your team/department

What’s involved?

The programme is delivered over a school year through face to face group training sessions on a Wednesday afternoon at St Wilfirds CofE Primary School 1.30pm-4pm.

Through interactive engaging development sessions each delegate will;

  • Contribute to peer led discussion and decision making
  • Complete gap tasks prior to each session
  • Identify professional development goals
  • Share leadership development progress and actions

Session Objectives

The monthly face to face training sessions will explore the following topics;

Leading a team 1/2/3 – in these first three sessions’ delegates will learn about

  • Characteristics of a high performing team and explore a leaders responsibility to deliver them
  • The difference between management and leadership
  • Different leadership styles and the importance of situational leadership

Communication 4/5 – in these two sessions’ delegates will learn about;

  • The impact of communication
  • How your personal impact can affect how people see you
  • How to use assertive communication to deliver results

Personal Effectiveness 6/7 – in this session delegates will learn about;

  • The difference between ‘Effective and efficient’ working
  • Tools to help you work on the right tasks at the right time
  • The key steps to appropriate and successful delegation
  • Different levels of delegation to match the needs of staff

Motivation & morale 8– In this session delegates will learn about;

  • What motivates us and what stands in the way of being motivated
  • Strategies to motivate and engage your teams
  • How to boost morale the work environment using the FISH! principles

Leading successful change 9 – in this session delegates will learn about;

  • How to lead effective change
  • What to expect from staff during change

Effective feedback 10 – in this session delegates will learn about;

  • The challenges to delivering effective feedback
  • A number of techniques to deliver feedback appropriate to different situations
  • The importance of receiving feedback well and being part of a developmental philosophy

Dealing with conflict 11 – in this session delegates will learn about;

  • To explain conflict and the impact it can have on you and your teams
  • Different conflict management styles and techniques

How much does it cost?

Registration £120

Each monthly training session £60

Upon registration RWCC will contact you to arrange invoicing which can be paid up front or termly.

What are my transport/parking options for getting to and from the event?

There is parking at the Rams Head pub next door - please note Grappenhall Village is a no parking zone other than in carparks.

What's the refund policy?

Once your school is registered that place remains for the year - the staff member can be changed if neccessary though.

Is it ok if the name on my ticket or registration doesn't match the person who attends?

Yes but please inform Rebecca before the sessions

How does this programme differ from NPQML?

The programme is delivered with a focus on the skills required to lead others. With 8 more face to face sessions there is more opportunity for group learning and discussion to share ideas and concepts. The Core Leadership Programme is not yet a nationally recognised qualification which keeps the costs lower than the NPQML even with more face to face sessions.

I’m not a teacher, can I come on this programme?

Unlike many other programmes you don’t need to be a teacher to access Core Leadership, the only requirement is that you lead a team of staff in a school or schools.

How is the programme measured?

All delegates will complete a competency assessment with their school leader before starting on the programme to establish their baseline. The delegate is expected to review this competency framework throughout the programme and update their SLT on their development. At the end of the programme the assessment will be repeated and an impact record will be completed and shared with RWCC and the Head teacher.

Could my school host this programme?

We’re always looking for more host schools, dependent upon the location of the school – please contact RWCC to discuss.
