Course aim

This 4-day course is suitable for core Paediatric Specialist Registrars, SHO’s, speciality doctors, specialist nurses and therapists working in community child health who want to gain a deeper understanding of core topics in community child health.

Learning outcomes

By then end of the 4 day course participants will have the basic theoretical knowledge and practical guidance on conducting developmental examination, assessment of a child with disability, child protection policy, procedures and practice and working with school age children.

Programme outline

Day 1: FACE-TO-FACE / £200

  • Introduction to Typical Development
  • Schedule of Growing Skills Assessment
  • Sleep issues in Childhood

Day 2: VIRTUAL (ZOOM) / £125

  • Assessment of the School Aged Child and ADHD
  • Approach to Coordination problems in children with overview of DCD
  • Autism spectrum disorder
  • Cerebral palsy

Day 3: VIRTUAL (ZOOM) / £125

  • Obesity and health lifestyle
  • Speech and Language impairments
  • Child rights and advocacy
  • Feeding
  • Hearing impairment
  • Bladder and Bowel Issues

Day 4: FACE-TO-FACE / £200

  • Child safeguarding – the role of the community paediatrician
  • Adoption and fostering overview
  • Looked After Children – Legislation, policies and Assessment

Please note, timetables and speakers are subject to change. Attendees are welcome to bring their own lunches on face to face days.

Course requirements

Participants will have access to pre-course lectures at the start of each day. No pre-course learning required.

Virtual training recommendations

To ensure the best possible learning experience, we recommend participants have the following:

  • Computer or laptop
  • Good internet connection – broadband wired or wireless (3G or 4G/LTE).
  • Minimum bandwidth is 600kbps (up/down) and recommended is 1.5 Mbps (up/down)
  • Headset
  • Webcam
