Event description
An exploration of the cosmic significance of humanity based on the philosophy of J.G. Bennett, science and spirituality by Anthony Hodgson.

About this event

Imagine a university that was dedicated to studying the universe as a whole, not in specialised pieces creating conflicting worldviews.

Since humans on this planet are a component of the universe, the earth and the wider system of universe should be included when we study humanity.

In this course, Dr. Anthony Hodgson will continue sharing a vision and a narrative of a cosmic ecology that he has developed over a lifetime of research. He will be drawing on many dimensions of the subject including science, history, spirituality and the arts.

Course Structure:

Some philosophical schools have stated that if you wish to understand humanity, you need to understand the universe; and if you want to understand the universe you need to understand humanity.

On these grounds the course has been split into two parts. This course is Part Two (Universe in Humankind). The Part 1 (Humankind in the Universe) ran from 7 October - 2 December 2021. You can attend Part 2 without having attended Part 1.

The course sessions are each made up from the following components:

  • A live participative session by Dr. Anthony Hodgson via Zoom
  • Learning challenges between sessions

Who is this course for?

It is not necessary to have attended Cosmic Ecology Course: Part 1 in order to be able to join Cosmic Ecology Course: Part 2.

Part 2 will place spiritual search and personal self-development in this wider context of cosmic ecology and communicate some practices on how to achieve a balanced work on oneself.

The Form of the Sessions:

The first four sessions will introduce: powerful ideas, exercises of engagement, review of implications, gap of three weeks for assimilation.

The second four sessions will emphasise on practice, personal feedback and coaching.

The sessions run Tuesdays 19:00 - 21:00 (GMT) every week over a period of four weeks. Then we have a gap in March and come back for the last four sessions in April. The clock would then have changed, which means the sessions will take place on Tuesdays 19:00 - 21:00 (BST) for the remainding four sessions in April:

1 February – Module 1: Waking Up to Transformation

8 February - Module 2: Mapping Our Human Structure

15 February – Module 3: Being Awake to be a Human Being

22 February – Module 4: Pathways of Spiritual Development – Past to Future

The gap in March will be a period for assimilation, experimentation, and a self-reflective essay.

5 April – Module 5: Paying Attention and Self-Remembering

12 April – Module 6: The Sevenfold Way of Inner Transformation

19 April - Module 7: Working with the Sevenfold Way

26 April - Module 8: Loving Creativity - The Next Evolution of Humanity

About the tutor:

The course is led by Dr. Anthony Hodgson, a founding Trustee of H3Uni.

Anthony graduated in chemistry from Imperial College in 1958. After a short period of research he then qualified with a PGCE from the London University Institute of Education. His interest in cosmology, both scientific and traditional, led him to spend ten years with J.G. Bennett at his Institute for the Comparative Study of History, Philosophy and the Sciences at Coombe Springs. This was the period when Bennett was completing Volumes 3 and 4 of his magnum opus, the Dramatic Universe.

After the death of Bennett and some further experiments in education with some of his followers, Anthony pursued a career as a freelance consultant combining facilitation with strategic thinking and scenario planning methods. In parallel he studied different spiritual traditions under a master who was seeking out the unity of spiritual development regardless of cultural and ethnic tradition. This period included pilgrimages to India, Egypt and Turkey.

On retiring from consulting activity Anthony helped the formation of The International Futures Forum, completed a doctorate in systems science and founded with colleagues H3Uni – a university for the third horizon. This course is the basis of a personal challenge that Bennett left with him to carry out a synthesis of the spiritual and the scientific that built on his work.
