Event description

Description

| Laughter Meditation | Sensory Exploration | Movement Medicine | Dance | Song | Substance-Free Ecstatic Ritual |

Saturday 3rd March 2018
Winter has squeezed the last drop of juice from us.
There are many festivals which greet us at the threshold of the new season with an unhinged Spring fever.
Mad March hares anyone?

The festival of Purim is the inspiration for our night together. It's a Jewish festival, yet all who love embodied and ecstatic practices will feel at home on this journey of laughter, dance, and breath,

Movement Medicine / Purim Dance (Keef Weslowski-Miles), Laughter Meditation (Andrew Maitland Southern), guided journeying (Rachel Rose Reid) & sensory exploration (more details TBC).

This event is child-friendly.
Children under 16 can join us free when accompanied by a responsible adult.

Want to know more?
'God' never appears in the story of Purim. The satirical tale shows how swiftly people can switch from being powerless to powerful, and back again. So it is in the World around us today: we hope there is justice and order in the World, yet we know that bad things happen to good people all the time. Stories that end "happily ever after" continue in many directions when the book is closed. We could laugh or cry. Purim (and all her sister festivals) ask us to laugh, not from joy exactly, but at the absurdity of humans imagining the Cosmos is under their control.

FAQs

Please tell me about the facilitators
Laughter Meditation: Andrew is our laughter meditation maker. With over 15 years of experience in sober ecstatic practice, meditation, he will invite you to take a moment out from your usual life, to sit, to relax, to smile to yourself and find the laughter inside you. We all have it. We need only invite it to fill us. Some will laugh, others grin and others smile. You may even wish to sit in silence. Together, in our many different ways, we will share ourselves. Andrews looks forward to sharing the healing power of laughter with you.

Movement Medicine / Purim Dance: Keef is a Qualified Movement Medicine Teacher, bringing 20 years of deep experience in many forms of Shamanism, Dance and Yoga. His humming bird dream is ‘detecting the nectar in all sectors of society, transforming consciousness and inspiring creativity and authenticity in human hearts’. He brings a beautiful synergy of lightness and depth, playfulness and prayerfulness, integrity and rebelliousness. He is a committed husband and proud father of a young daughter.

The organiser / ritual keeper, Rachel is a storyteller and the first British woman to be ordained by the Kohenet Hebrew Priestes Institute, which seeks to reclaim, revive and renew, embodied earth-centred Jewish practices, especially those held by women, or connecting with the feminine Divine.
She facilitates Jewish-rooted life cycle rituals for all genders, and for Jewish and multi-faith settings, and has established Yelala! [meaning a loud cry of grief, rage or joy] which runs retreats and opportunities for embodied connection.

Sensory Exploration: More information coming soon!

What are the ticket prices based on?

This event ticketing is designed to cover the costs of hiring our venue and facilitators' time.
We are not seeking to make a profit. We want the evening to be accessible, so we are setting a spectrum of ticket prices in the hope that those in the community with more money can subsisdise those with less.
Any excess donations received will be donated to Hackney Migrant Centre.
Please get in touch if you are not able to afford the lowest price and we will put you on a (confidential) list and get in touch if we are able to subsidise your participation.

Are there ID or minimum age requirements to enter the event?
This event is for any age and children are welcome, though some of the journeying will be best understood by those who are 18+. Guests under 18 must be accompanied by a responsible adult

Will there be food or drink at the event? Can I bring my own?
There will be no alcohol at this event. We believe people can reach ecstatic states together by sober methods!
A cafe will be open for us in the Golden Egg courtyard, where you can sit and buy snacks and tea.
Only water will be permitted in the dance space, and we recommend you bring a bottle to keep hydrated.

What are my transport/parking options for getting to and from the event?
The Golden Egg is a 5-10 minute walk from Dalston Kingsland and Dalston Junction Overground stations.
There are a few parking spaces, these will be available to those who have mobility / access needs that make proximity helpful - please get in touch with us if this is you.

Does the venue have disabled access?
Please notify us if you have access needs so we can be prepared. The venue is an old building, but we hope to make you feel welcome if you'd like to come. All activities will take place on the ground floor, which has a few steps that for which we can arrange a slope or manual assistance for. The courtyard cafe has a narrowish entrance, and there is a small step up, for which we can arrange the same assistance if practical for you.
The Golden Egg doesn't have a disabled toilet, but we are making an arrangement to have access to one in a local restuarant, directly over the road from the venue.

How shall I dress?
Please wear clothes you can move around in comfortably. You will be asked to remove your shoes as the space is often used for barefooted-prayer. It's a Purim tradition to wear costume, but feel free to come fancy or comfy as you wish.
To help our lovely hosts keep their space clean, please avoid large amounts of glitter and bodypaint.

How can I contact the organiser with any questions?
You can email rachelrosereid(at)gmail(dot)com

What's your refund policy?
Refunds are available up to one week before the event. After that they'll be available on a case by case basis

Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event?
No, but your name needs to match the name on our list

Is my registration fee or ticket transferrable?
Yes, please notify us if you are gifting your ticket to someone else.
