Event description

Costain is visiting Leeds Beckett University to offer the BSc (Hons) Quantity Surveying Students opportunities that their company can offer. They would like to see students in half hour individual interview slots.

Date: Tuesday 06-02-2018

Room: CC NTB07

Times: 30 minute slots available from 09:30 until 17:00

Costain have been really impressed by the calibre of the two Leeds Beckett graduates who we recruited last year – Faad Hussain and Bilal Ahmed – as a result of which Costain would like to actively encourage Leeds Beckett University QS students to apply to the Costain sponsored student programme. This has the advantage of enabling both parties to get to know each other over a 4 year period with the undergraduates joining us at the end of their first year for a Summer placement and, providing that we continue to meet each other’s expectations, to subsequently join us for their industrial placement year and ultimately join our graduate programme following graduation.

The scheme is structured so that the Summer placement runs from mid-June and lasts for between 8 and 12 weeks, with the flexibility to extend if requested by the student, providing that it can be accommodated by the project. They will be paid a salary, paid pro-rata for the time which they are with us, and their reasonable travel expenses; for 2017 the salary was £15,500 per annum, this is however kept under review to ensure that what we are offering remains competitive.

The financial support available under the Costain sponsored student programme is as follows :-

April 2018 - £675 (Academic Year 1)

  • October 2018 - £725 (Academic Year 2)
  • April 2019 - £725 (Academic Year 2)
  • October 2020 - £750 (Academic Year 4)
  • April 2021 - £750 (Academic Year 4)

There is no sponsorship payment in Academic Year 3 as the undergraduate will be in their year in industry with us and receiving a salary. The April 2018 payment of £675 will, of course, be conditional upon the undergraduate doing a summer placement with Costain in 2018.

We actively encourage anyone who applies to Costain to understand the Costain business model, which is summarised on page 13 of the 2016 annual report:
