Costume Making at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts

Diane Favell, Head of Costume at RADA, takes guests on a tour of RADA’s renowned costume store. Guests will have an opportunity to meet Deryk Cropper, Head of Props, and view the RADA prop store and department.
The Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA) offers vocational training for actors, stage managers, designers and technical stage craft specialists. RADA was established in 1904 and has since built an outstanding reputation as a world-renowned centre of excellence, offering the best possible facilities, exceptional teaching and strong links with the industries that employ its graduates. RADA’s student population is a diverse community, united by a shared passion for theatre-making. RADA prides itself both on the professional standard of their student productions and on their track-record of employment in theatre, film and television.
RADA has been providing training in technical theatre and stage management since 1970, and full-time courses have produced renowned designers and technicians including Academy Award winning costume designer Lindy Hemming (Topsy-Turvy, Casino Royale, Batman Begins, The Dark Knight), OIivier Award-winning lighting designer Paul Pyant and Linbury Prize-winning stage designer Florence de Maré. Recent graduates have gone on to work at venues including the Donmar Warehouse, National Theatre, Royal Court, Glyndebourne and the Royal Opera House; on films such as Spectre and Macbeth; and with theatre and film directors including Rufus Norris, Mike Leigh, and Alan Rickman.
