Why don't you...put down your phone, get off your couch and do something exciting instead?

We know why...because you're most likely exhausted!

But we want to encourage you to fight that instinct! Come out and raise funds for two fantastic charities that support people before, during and after cancer treatment, have a drink and a chat, see some live poetry and musical performances and most importantly make some connections and find out more about the things there are to do in Hillingdon. We promise you'll be glad you made the effort!

We are a group of military wives, used to moving place to place and having to make our own fun. We've learned how to do it over the years, starting book groups, joining running clubs or taking the plunge with cold water swimming.

And now, somehow, although the internet should make it easier, sometimes we know it can feel overwhelming to meet new people, or take up a new hobby. Life gets in the way, babysitting is expensive, if you drive you can't have a drink, you might feel you have to get dressed up to go out - there's often a reason not to take that first step.

But while we know it's easier to stay on the couch in front of the TV, you really can't beat the endorphin rush of meeting up with people in real life - a smile, a hug, a laugh and a friendly ear - and doing an activity you love be it singing, running, crafting, yoga, reading, dancing, tennis, comedy nights out or swimming.

This event is to share the in real life clubs we've joined, and the people we've met in the Hillingdon area, and encourage anyone who's running a club looking for members or a business that wants to encourage customers to come along and speak about what makes you tick in our 'speed sharing session'.

It's literally come as you are.

Find out more...go on, we dare you!

You'll be raising money for the good causes Cancer and Menopause and Orchid - committed to supporting men and women to check for lumps and changes, as well as how to navigate cancer treament and the aftermath - and hopefully, going away with a new friend, hobby or idea about what you'd like to do with yourself in real life.

WE WANT YOU TO GET OUT OF THE HOUSE!!!

  • Need a babysitter? We've got a list of young people willing to sit for reasonable rates or find your own - we will give you £20 towards the costs (use our list, or show us
  • Need a lift? We're happy to arrange lift shares, or a shuttle bus if enough people come from the same location [pick up from Northolt or Northwood military bases]
  • Don't want to come on your own? (Though there's no need to worry, we are literally all used to being the new girl over and over again, and will not let anyone stand alone!) Persuade someone else to come with you! Tickets are £5 for one person, or £8 for two and include a free drink (alcoholic or non-alcoholic)
  • Want to share something about your passion? Take a 'Happy to chat' label when you arrive and we'll make sure you get a chance to do your elevator pitch
  • Want to exhibit? Let us know in advance and we'll set up a space for you on the mezzanine - a slight change this time, no need to get your own ticket too, just the exhibitor space.

Drop us a line weirdwolfpr@gmail.com with any questions or to ask for numbers etc

Frequently asked questions

What kind of exhibitors will there be, and what kind of exhibitors are you looking for?

We're already welcoming: the compere of a local comedy venue, cold water swimmers, gamers, Brunel Uni, choirs, running club members, the Hillingdon Ladies Club, walking footballers and more. We'd also like to see small businesses and anyone who has an interest in supporting those with cancer.

What kind of drinks will there be?

Definitely fizz. Most likely some beer and soft drinks too. If you're happy to help us serve, let us know, we absolutely want this to be a pitching in like old pals kind of affair.

What kind of food will there be?

Imagine a book group or a picnic - that kind of thing. Small snacks on sticks. Yummy stuff that you can pop in your mouth and hopefully not make too much mess. We welcome contributions, we just ask that you write out the ingredients if you've made it yourself so that those with allergies are aware.

Are you looking for more performers?

Sure, why not?! If you think you've got something to offer, please get in touch. If this evening is a success there may well be future events, so if we can't fit you in this time, there may be other opportunities. Just drop an email to weirdwolfpr@gmail.com

What parking is there?

The Battle of Britain Bunker has loads of free parking spaces in its carpark which is down below the museum, as well as disabled parking right near the door. Access is step free.

What should I wear?

Clothes. We literally do not mind if you come in your jim jams or your glad rags, the choice is yours. You probably also want something on your feet.

Is this for everyone? Can children come?

We made a slightly mean decision that we want this just to be for grown ups. Part of the point of the event is that people find or rekindle something for themselves, and so children, as super as they are, are distracting. If your baby is small enough to be carried in a bag, then we will let you off.

I want to talk about my passion, which ticket do I buy?

As this is a fundraiser we want everyone to pay to come. You can buy a single ticket, or a bring a friend ticket. If you just want to chat to people about the group you're in, or do a quick bit of speed hobbying (60 secs on why people should join) then you don't need an exhibition ticket.

I want to exhibit, do I have to buy an entry ticket too?

You don't have to. We've increased the exhibitor cost this time, to £8 (plus fees) for a table / chair / whatever you might need (within reason!) to promote your interest. We're also keen to welcome any 'live demos' or sessions.

Can I get or give a lift share?

If you are happy to give a lift or want to receive a lift from Northwood or Northolt military bases let us know - weirdwolfpr@gmail.com

I need more details about the babysitters - how do I know if they're legit?

The babysitters are teens we know personally and can vouch for. The list of more expensive professionals has been created by contacting local nurseries and childcare organisations. The maximum we can give is £20 for your sitter.

Organized by

We are a group of military wives used to moving, used to being the newbies, used to making our own fun. Recently we noticed that real life seems to have got a bit quiet, and even the most dedicated of us (who would normally attend the opening of an envelope) were feeling a bit of scrolling fatigue. So we decided that we'd try and organise a real life freshers fayre for adults - designed to allow people and organisations to share their passions, with a view to recruiting more members.
