How confident are you in your ability to detect a lie? Most of us think we can tell when someone is being dishonest - but what does the science actually say?

Join us for an exclusive online event with world-renowned deception expert Professor Aldert Vrij, whose groundbreaking research has shaped how police, security services, and psychologists across the globe approach lie detection.

In this eye-opening session, Professor Vrij will explore:

  • Why we’re not as good at spotting lies as we think
  • The psychological and behavioural science behind deception
  • Common myths about liars — and why they persist
  • Cutting-edge techniques used to detect deceit in high-stakes settings

Whether you're interested in psychology, criminology, law enforcement, or just fascinated by human behaviour, this event will challenge what you think you know about truth and lies.

About Professor Aldert Vrij:

Professor Aldert Vrij is one of the world’s leading experts on deception and credibility assessment. Based at the University of Portsmouth, he has spent over two decades researching how and why people lie — and how we can detect it more accurately. His work has informed investigative interviewing practices across law enforcement, security, and intelligence agencies internationally.

Professor Vrij has published extensively on the psychology of lying, including the influential book Detecting Lies and Deceit: Pitfalls and Opportunities, and regularly advises organisations on evidence-based lie detection techniques. His research challenges long-held myths and promotes scientifically validated methods that improve our ability to separate truth from fiction.
